AC-T: Asheville keeps control of water system, court rules

Asheville will maintain control of the west’s biggest water system following a North Carolina Supreme Court ruling handed down Wednesday.

In the ruling the court sided with the city against the state legislature that passed a 2013 law stripping Asheville of control of municipal system and handing it over to a regional sewerage system.

Mayor Esther Manheimer, in a statement released by the city, said the decision reinforces Asheville’s decisions to create and invest in “the robust water system we have today that provides safe drinking water for Asheville and its customers.”
