BREVARD, N.C. (WLOS) — There was renewed talk of a greenway connecting some big-name breweries and a cidery in Western North Carolina on Monday, according to Transylvania County Manager Jaime Laughter.
The greenway could run beside Highway 280 from Oskar Blues to Bold Rock and then Sierra Nevada.
Laughter said commissioners in her county may vote to start an extensive study on the project this spring and discuss financing.
“Are there ways to create partnerships? Are there ways to find additional grant funds that will help to refine the project and potentially even construct it?” Laughter said.
The cost per mile, based on a 2014 study, was estimated to be about $500,000, Laughter said.
Based on the study, and according to Google Maps, the distance from Oskar Blues to Sierra Nevada is about 18 miles, so the project could cost about $9 million.
“That study didn’t go too in depth as far as far as actual engineering and feasibility and cost factors,” Laughter said.
