Madeline Walker
AmeriCorps Watershed Coordinator
Madeline grew up running around the Cedar Glades of Lebanon, Tennessee and is a recent alum of Maryville College. Here, she studied Environmental Science (BS), Sustainability, and Recreation in The Smoky Mountains. As a Bonner Scholar, community engagement was a major component of her undergraduate education.
Through this volunteer work, she found her place in watershed conservation, community science, and education.
Although Madeline loves all ecosystems for what they offer, she has a special fascination researching wetland functionality and human connection. Her Undergraduate research included gathering baseline data for management of a large beaver-altered wetland in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This inspired an independent study focusing on traditional wetland management, writing blog posts for the protection of the Okefenokee Swamp, and a summer in performing the AIM Wetland and Riparian protocol in the backcountry of Idaho. In her free time, she loves trail running, spending time with her dog, backpacking, paddling, and botanizing. She is excited to be a part of the Riverlink team through Americorps Conserving Caroline to promote enhancement of a watershed she has come to know and love over the years.
