Alex Russell

In School Education Coordinator
Alex first discovered his passion for environmental education while working as an outdoor instructor at a summer camp in Northern Virginia during college. That experience sparked a long-term commitment to connecting people with nature through education.
He graduated from Salisbury University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics, and his love for numbers has only grown since. He is especially drawn to the universal language of mathematics and has enjoyed sharing that passion as a part-time Math Instructor at UNC Asheville for the past two years.
In 2024–2025, Alex served with Americorps Project Conserve as the Community Engagement and Education Coordinator with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, a nonprofit land conservation organization. There, he helped foster deeper connections between people and protected landscapes through education and outreach.
Now as RiverLink’s In-School Coordinator, Alex brings together his background in teaching, and environmental education to create hands-on, engaging learning experiences for students across Western North Carolina.
He and his wife have lived in Asheville for four years and enjoy growing with this vibrant community. Outside of work, Alex loves woodworking, hiking, biking, backpacking, plant identification, and tutoring math.
