Watershed Program Specialist (Full time)
The Watershed Program Specialist (WPS) will assist the Senior Director of Programs in delivering projects focused on water quality issues, habitat restoration, and flood mitigation throughout the French Broad River watershed. Projects are developed collaboratively with private landowners, municipalities, NGO partners, and communities to ensure equitable outcomes. The WPS oversees the Name that Creek and WaterRICH programs. This position also supervises an AmeriCorps Watershed Coordinator. The WPS position is based in Asheville, NC. and will primarily be done in a shared office space or in the field. Limited remote work is possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with implementation of projects focused on green stormwater infrastructure, stream restoration, and watershed management plans
- Lead ongoing stewardship/maintenance of past projects
- Manage Name that Creek Program
- Oversee the WaterRICH Program focused on residential stormwater management
- Manage Adopt-A-Storm Drain and Adopt-A-Stream Programs with support from AmeriCorps members
- Supervise Watershed Coordinator (Americorps Project Conserve Member)
- Participate in AmeriCorps Supervisor trainings and fulfill reporting requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Job type: Full-time, salaried (exempt from overtime), typically 9am to 5pm with infrequent weekend and evening duties.
Pay Range and Benefits: $45,000 – $50,000 annual salary (based on experience and pay equity within our organization), health insurance, life and disability, IRA contributions, holidays and generous paid time off.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will likely possess some, but not necessarily all, of the following qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 1-2 years work experience in the environmental/conservation sector.
- Supervisory and/or volunteer coordination experience preferred.
- Knowledge of water quality issues, stormwater management, land stewardship activities.
- GIS experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Requires periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer.
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
- Must be committed to fostering equity, diversity and inclusion in the organization and greater community.
