Salix grew up in the suburbs outside of Washington, D.C., where he spent his childhood in backyards, urban forests, and along the streambanks of the Potomac River. He could mostly be found in the outdoors, deepening his relationship to nature through play. Salix holds a degree in Natural Resources Conservation from Virginia Tech, and worked numerous conservation and education related positions, including AmeriCorps Conservation Corps, wilderness therapy, outdoor youth mentorship, and trail crew leadership. Salix is passionate about connecting children to the environment, and making the outdoors accessible for everyone.
Salix came to RiverLink in 2023 to pioneer the afterschool education program. With a focus on equity and opportunity, Salix developed hands-on science and mental wellness curriculum, and nature-based art activities. He cares deeply about building relationships with the communities who work tirelessly for the future of their children. When he’s not in a stream searching for macroinvertebrates, Salix can be found playing music, singing or spending time with his friends.
