Sarah Jamison

River Cane Project Manager
Sarah grew up just outside of Asheville, deeply influenced by the rich natural and cultural heritage of southern Appalachia. After graduating from Warren Wilson College with a BS in Sustainable Forestry, she has spent the last thirteen years working in the field of natural resources in WNC and the Northeast. Her work has included growing native plants, forest inventory, wetland delineation, and environmental consulting. She holds a professional certificate in Ecological Restoration as well being an ISA Certified Arborist. While working for Madison County Soil & Water, Sarah began propagating river cane and learning more about its value in riparian restorations following Hurricane Helene. She is very excited to support the ongoing efforts of partners throughout the area to increase commercial availability of river cane.
Although she misses her forestry days of being paid to walk in the woods, in her free time Sarah loves to explore public lands, forage for mushrooms, navigate rivers, and go camping. She also enjoys playing old time and bluegrass music with friends and family. Keep an ear out for a playlist of fiddle tunes about river cane!
