We are connected by a network of waterways and human kindness. When you donate to RiverLink, you educate the next generation of river stewards; underwrite water and land management for a healthy watershed; support climate resilience; and work to restore a thriving French Broad riverway for all. We are grateful for contributions of all sizes and giving vehicles.

Donate stock and securities
Appreciated stocks, bonds, and mutual funds offer a great way for you to support RiverLink’s mission while maximizing tax benefits by potentially avoiding paying tax on capital gains. We liquidate stocks and securities and direct these gifts to our account at First Citizens Bank of Raleigh.
Step 1
Please supply the following information to your broker and tell them which stock and how many shares you’d like to donate:
RiverLink’s Brokerage Firm: First Citizens Bank of Raleigh
RiverLink’s First Citizens DTC#: 5409
First Citizens Bank Address: 100 E Tryon Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27603

Step 2
Please let us know when you’ve initiated a gift of this type by contacting our Finance & Operations Manager at finance@riverlink.org or (828) 252-8474 ext. 110. Why is this important? When you make a gift by transferring stock or securities to our account, we do not receive any information that identifies you as the donor. By letting us know you ensure that we can provide the proper acknowledgment for your generous support.
Step 3
Our broker will sell your donated stock, and the proceeds will be moved to RiverLink’s operating fund. We will notify you when the funds are received and provide you with a letter documenting the stock gift value.
Thank you for your support to promote the environmental and economic vitality of the French Broad River and its watershed for all!
Mutual Funds
Special instructions are required. The donor’s broker must contact First Citizens directly to obtain specific transfer instructions. Note: due to the complexity involved, these transfers can take upwards of 30 days to complete.

Give Through your IRA
After saving for years, you may find your long-term financial goals have been achieved or that you may not need income from your IRA right now. If you are aged 70 ½ or older, your retirement assets can be put to work to protect and sustain the French Broad River and its watershed.
A regular IRA withdrawal is included in your taxable income, and often there are minimum distributions required annually. Qualified Charitable Distributions count towards required minimum distributions and are excluded from taxable income.
You can donate up to $111,000 from your IRA as an individual or $222,000 as a couple without having to recognize the distribution as income.
Making this arrangement is easy. It only requires that you notify your IRA Administrator of the amount you wish to contribute and ask for a check to be mailed directly to:
RiverLink | PO Box 120, Asheville NC 28802

Give Through Donor Advised Fund
A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account that allows donors to make tax-deductible contributions and then recommend grants to qualified charities over time. It’s a tax-efficient way to organize your charitable giving, offering flexibility and the potential for the DAF to grow.
Please contact your charitable gift fund administrator directly for their guidelines for minimum contributions and recommending grants.

Legacy/Planned Gifts
Rivers and the lands that surround them are dynamic and ever-changing. Together, our legacy can be to ensure that the French Broad River and its watershed are protected, support the economic vitality of our region and offer accessible spaces for education and recreation.
A planned gift is one way to express what you value that will have an impact well into the future.
Gifts can be made through your will or trust, by naming RiverLink as a beneficiary of retirement assets or a life insurance policy, or through gifts of real estate or other personal property.
Your investment enables people to experience the French Broad River in all its beauty, learn about the importance of water quality and the River’s ecosystems, protect water quality and restore damaged streams, conserve land along our waterways, and inspire people to become stewards of the River.
If you have made a planned gift, and would like to share that information with us, please use this form. If you would like to speak with someone about making a planned gift, please contact development@riverlink.org
