Event Details

Green Money looks at the environment through an economic lens, focusing on convergences between business and conservation interests, but not ignoring flash points between the two perspectives. Respected academics will present guiding principles for thinking about the environment in an economic way, and local community leaders will share case studies – stories, really – to flesh out the principles.  This was one of the reasons for Wilma’s effectiveness as an environmental pioneer in the 1950’s and1960’s: her ability to set arguments for conservation within the realistic frameworks of our economy and our society.  She helped invent the fields of environmental justice and ecofeminism.

Our target audience is the general public.  That is why we are charging only a nominal fee for each of the four webinar panels.  One of the main objectives of Green Money is to introduce the growing field of environmental economics to the general public.  Another objective is to honor Wilma’s core value of environmental integrity, which meant neither saving every tree nor squeezing every dollar, and tailoring environmental solutions to the nuances of each situation. A third objective is to showcase the wonderful talent and conscientiousness we have in Asheville and North Carolina.
